We (Hylko and Birgit) and our son Patrik emigrated from Germany to Australia in 2011 and became proud Australians in 2016. We desperately missed the variety of German sourdough bread so we started to bake our own homemade bread to our own German recipe.
Our search for the right ingredients was not always easy. A healthy whole flour organic variety of our much loved bread without a high proportion of yeast was very important to us. Hylko and I would bake for all occasions; for the lunch box, for the weekend and definitely fresh bread for parties with friends. Everyone loved our bread so much, if there was a party we would always be asked to bring our homemade bread.
As time went on we were asked by others how to bake our bread. Hylko decided to run some baking classes in a home environment, this was a big hit with the bread baking enthusiasts.
Hylko and I thought about opening a business to give others the opportunity to bake good, fresh, organic, healthy homemade sourdough bread to our own German recipe.
We are in contact with many people who live all across Australia which love to eat and bake European bread.
It’s not possible to send the fresh baked bread over long distances. This is why we have created our very own Baking Mixes. It became clear that we needed a dried active sourdough starter that is not available in Australia. After numerous trials we finally developed a dried active sourdough starter which is essential for good bread to stay fresh for longer.
We have been successfully selling our bread mixes and the dried sourdough starter at the local markets since October 2017. Recently we also introduced a variety of whole flour cake and biscuit mixes.
Our journey has just begun and we have a long way to go yet.
